So many of the things we choose for Bloomfields begin somewhere quieter — in a garden, a field, a studio, a workshop, or, sometimes, a hive.
Meet the Maker is our way of sharing those stories — the people behind the things we carry, the materials they work with, the places and processes that shape what they make, and why their work found a place at Bloomfields.
Over the coming seasons, we’ll introduce you to some of the makers whose work we admire and invite you behind the scenes to see how their ideas become the objects, flavours, scents, and small rituals that find a place in our shops and homes.
Our first story begins with the bees.
Miel des Fleurs is a small, woman-owned apiary near Westport, Ontario, founded and operated by Master Beekeeper Annelle Lalonde.
What began with just two hives in 2022 has grown to nearly 30 colonies, surrounded by forest, wildflowers, and blueberry fields. Annelle’s approach is rooted in observation, respect for the natural rhythms of the hive, and letting the bees set the pace.
From seasonal wildflower honey to hand-poured beeswax candles, very little goes to waste.
We invite you to meet Annelle, step behind the scenes, and discover why her work felt so naturally at home at Bloomfields.
