DBO Home

The Art of Living Slowly Porcelain. Wood. Light. Thoughtfully made objects that bring warmth, texture, and quiet beauty into everyday living.

A Different Way of Living

For husband-and-wife team Dana Brandwein and Daniel Oates, DBO HOME began with a change of pace.

Leaving behind the energy of New York City, they settled in the countryside of Litchfield County, Connecticut, where a converted cowshed became the foundation of their creative life.

Dana, a former music industry executive who worked with artists including AC/DC, Metallica, and Björk, followed her passion for design and ceramics.

Daniel, an accomplished sculptor whose work is held in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum, brought his understanding of form, materials, and craftsmanship to the studio.

Together, they created DBO HOME — a collection of thoughtfully designed objects that bring natural materials, sculptural beauty, and a sense of permanence into everyday living.

Today, their work continues from two studios on their property in Sharon, Connecticut, where ceramics and woodworking come together.

The Story

Where Porcelain Meets Wood

Every DBO HOME lamp begins with the meeting of two crafts.

In the ceramics studio, Dana works with porcelain, casting each form and developing glazes inspired by the colours and textures of the natural world.

In the neighbouring woodshop, Daniel creates the wooden elements, bringing warmth and balance to each sculptural piece.

As the lamps take shape, they move between the two studios, combining porcelain and wood with carefully selected linen and bouclé shades.

The process is thoughtful and deliberate, with as much attention given to how a material feels as to how it looks.

Smooth porcelain against natural wood grain. Subtle variations in glaze. The softness of woven fabric.

Each detail contributes to an object designed to be appreciated both for its beauty and its everyday purpose.

Beauty in the Imperfect

At DBO HOME, the beauty of handmade work is found in its individuality.

Dana and Daniel develop their own glaze recipes, mixing them in small batches and drawing inspiration from colours found in nature.

Soft neutrals, deep indigo, organic speckles, and subtle variations in finish give each piece its distinctive character.

The glazes are designed to create movement, texture, and depth — qualities that become more apparent the closer you look.

Rather than seeking perfect uniformity, DBO HOME embraces the natural variations that come from working by hand.

Each lamp is a functional work of art, bringing together thoughtful design and the quiet beauty of natural materials.

Why We Chose This

A Long-Loved Favourite Returns

Some makers stay with us.

Virginia and Jamie first discovered DBO HOME at the New York Gift Show more than a decade ago.

Drawn to the sculptural beauty of Dana and Daniel's lamps, they brought the collection to Bloomfields, beginning a connection that has continued ever since.

Two of those lamps have found a lasting place in their own home.

It's this enduring quality that makes DBO HOME so special to us.

Beautiful whether illuminated or not, each piece brings warmth, texture, and character to a room.

As we explore the quieter beauty of our Winter Chapter, Stillness. Light. Hope., we're delighted to welcome DBO HOME back to Bloomfields.

A familiar favourite, thoughtfully made to be lived with and appreciated for years to come.
