Living in Bloom | The Season Deepens ... October 1, 2026 - Bloomfields

Dear BFFs,

October has arrived — and it’s one of our favourite times of year.

The mornings are cooler, evenings come a little earlier, and there’s something about this month that naturally draws us inward.

We light candles earlier. Pull out a favourite sweater. Curl up with a book. Bake something warm. And yet, there’s a new energy too — gardens giving us their last beautiful offerings, kitchens becoming busier, and tables beginning to fill.

I find myself bringing things in — branches from the garden, dahlias while they’re still here, hydrangeas beginning to dry, something warmer for a chair or table.
Nothing dramatic — just small changes that make home feel more connected to what’s happening outside.

Perhaps that’s what I love most about October. It’s cozy, abundant, and full of small rituals that make home feel especially good.

Living seasonally doesn’t mean reinventing everything. Sometimes it’s simply noticing what nature is offering and allowing a little of it in.

At Bloomfields, Gather feels especially at home this month.

With Thanksgiving approaching, we’re thinking about the table — not simply how it looks, but the people around it, the food we share, the flowers we bring in, and the time we spend together.

A table doesn’t need to be elaborate to feel special. Flowers gathered loosely. A few candles. Something seasonal in a favourite vase. The people you love gathered around it.

That’s more than enough.

Our Pick a Pumpkin, Feed a Family campaign also returns this month.

For every $22 heirloom pumpkin purchased at Bloomfields, a full meal will be provided for one family in need through the Ottawa Food Bank.

By the end of October, the season will begin to shift again as we prepare our shops for what comes next.

But not quite yet.

For now, we’re enjoying the changing light, cozy evenings, gathered tables, and all that this beautiful month has to offer.

Until next time, may you find beauty in the everyday.

with love, Virginia & Jamie
