Some Things Are Worth Preserving

For Scott Nowlan, founder of Morrison & Co. Preserves, it began in a family kitchen—with handwritten recipes, summer berries, and the women who taught him to preserve them.

Today, those traditions continue through small-batch preserves made in Ottawa with ingredients sourced from local farms.

The Process

A Family Story

Preserving has always been part of Scott's life, from picking berries at the family cottage in Quebec to learning recipes passed down by his grandmother Dorothy, mother Gail, and aunt Marlene.

In the summer of 2024, he returned to those traditions, making more than 800 jars that sold out within a month.

What began as a familiar summer ritual became Morrison & Co. Preserves—a way to carry those family traditions forward.

From Farm to Jar

Scott works directly with growers across Ontario and Quebec, sourcing strawberries, blueberries, rhubarb, and other ingredients at their seasonal best.

Back in his Ottawa kitchen, each preserve is made in small batches, carefully watched, tasted, and adjusted.

The harvest shapes what he makes. No two seasons are exactly alike—and that's part of their beauty.

A Thoughtful Collaboration

Morrison & Co. Preserves also creates a collection of tea-infused preserves in collaboration with Genuine Tea.

Peach & Earl Grey Jam, Blackberry & Jasmine Jam, and Apple & Hibiscus Jelly bring together carefully steeped tea and seasonal fruit.

It's a natural pairing for Bloomfields, where we also carry Genuine Tea—and appreciate the small rituals of everyday living.

Why We Chose It

We chose Morrison & Co. Preserves for its thoughtful approach to ingredients, respect for local growers, and commitment to traditional methods.

There's something special about knowing the people behind what we bring into our homes.

A jar of preserves, a warm scone, a pot of tea—simple pleasures made more meaningful by the care behind them.
